Wedding + legal = Marriage license

Mr. J and I are slowly able to tick off a lot of very important tasks from our wedding assignments.  We’ve finished the pre-cana seminar already (done at SSJ), gotten our copies of baptismal certificates (with the required “for marriage purposes” annotation), and most recently, having applied for a marriage license.

Since we're both from Antipolo, this was the only city where we could apply for our marriage license  (for the record, you can apply at any city for as long as one of you, the couple, resides in it).

According to the Antipolo City government website, the following are the requirements to apply for a marriage license:

1) Birth/Baptismal Certificates of the couple
I’m surprised the baptismal certificate is an option but I’m not sure if anyone really gives the baptismal over the birth certificate option.  I suggest to just sticking with giving the birth certificate just to be sure. You can easily get a copy of your birth certificate online thru NSO or by going to an SM Mall near you --- not sure if all SM malls have this service, so best to check first.  SM Masinag and SM Marikina offer NSO services.
2
) 1x1 ID picture
3
) CENOMAR or Certificate of No Marriage
Get it at the same time you’ll get your birth certificate copy.  This way you only need to request for your documents once.  Also, remember to take note of the 6 months validity rule.  Actually, if I remember correctly, when I asked about the CENOMAR’s validity, the girl in the SM counter
told me that CENOMAR has no “expiry” date just like a birth cert.  But just to be super sure, just stick with the 6 months validity rule.
4
) If you’re 18-20 years old, the consent and personal appearance of parents or guardians are required.
5
) If you’re 21-25, you just need a letter of advice from parents or guardian (appearance, I think, is no longer needed).
6
) Pre-Marriage Counseling Certificate
7
) Php 350 processing fee

The list I mentioned above is just the basic requirements for regular couples (both are Filipinos and first time in getting married).  If you (or the person you’re marrying) have been married before, or is a widow/widower, or a foreigner, there are additional requirements that you’d need to submit.  You may find them here.

Now here’s what they don’t tell you on the website:

1
) I don’t know why but they’ll ask for the receipt of the CENOMAR to be submitted (or maybe just presented) as well.  I didn’t bring it with us because I didn’t think they’d need it since it’s simply a proof of payment for transacting with SM for their NSO services and at the same time, they did not list this as requirement in their website (they also didn’t mention this when I called to verify the requirements to be submitted).  Thankfully, we were still able to accomplish applying for the license and were just advised to bring the receipt upon releasing of the license (which will take 11 days).

2) The Pre-Marriage Counseling that you’ll need to attend will ask you to pay Php 100 for the certificate (at least that’s what they told us when they were handing out the certificates at the end of the seminar).  Also, there’s a family planning sheet that you’d fill-out and have to pay Php 12.00 each.  Actually, the worksheet was just a Tagalog version of the same questionnaire that we filled out during our pre-cana at SSJ.  The seminar is held only on Fridays from 8AM – 12PM (though we started at around 9AM).  Best strategy would be to attend the seminar in the morning then apply for the license afterward.

3) The birth certificate and family planning certificate that they’ll keep is the photocopied version.  There’s a photocopying machine just outside the room where you’ll be applying for the license.  We were instructed to have them photocopied, which we did.  Not sure how much it costs since Mr. J was the one who did this task while I went to the cashier window to pay for the processing fee.

4) There is also another form that they’ll ask you to photocopy (3 copies).  I’m not sure what it was since Mr. J was the one who took the form and I could only read out the word “NOTICE” that was written in big, bold letters.  My guess is that it has something to do with posting a notice of the application to the city hall (kind of like wedding banns, I suppose).  Mr. J didn’t bother reading what it was as well since he was already hungry and sleepy (he just came off from work and went straight to the seminar with me).

All in all, it was a pretty decent experience.  I liked how the seminar was only half-day and with multiple speakers and that it took us probably just 15-25 minutes to complete the application for the marriage license.  Below is the map (where I’ve circled a green arrow), where you’ll find the Gender Advocacy and Development Center.

At the 2nd floor of this building is where you would find both the room where you’ll apply for a marriage license as well as the room where the seminar is held.  If you’re traveling by car, the place would just be a short walk if you park at the Victory Park & Shop mall (in the map, it's where Starbucks is located).

So there you have it.  My guide on getting your marriage license in Antipolo.  Oooh, by the way, for the releasing of the license, either one of the couple may be present to get it.  I'm not sure if they allow for the couple to send for an authorized representative as I didn't ask this anymore since I was planning to be the one to pick up the license on the date they specified for the releasing.

My Instagram Save The Date

I can't sleep.

Not sure if it's because I'm giddy with excitement over the fact that THE day is just 3 months away or that I'm being haunted by the thought that I've been very lazy with blog updates. =P

For a quick update, we've approved the final layout for our invites (woot, letterpress!!!  This deserves a blog entry in itself because letterpress wasn't the original plan).  We had a short meeting with our florist today to discuss some changes in our requirements (goosebumps! I could still remember last year when we had our meeting with her... how time flies).  I've also booked some more suppliers for our Big Day.

For now, let me share my Instagram STD.

I created the content of the STD using Photoshop then had it printed on white cardstock (I was planning to print out multiples at first then send it out to people.  I changed my mind when I realized I could just use Instagram to make it look prettier then upload via Facebook).  Quick tip: I have an album in my FB account that is customized such that it can only be seen by certain people (only the ones that I'm inviting to the wedding).  This way, I could freely share info thru the album and not worry about other FB contacts seeing them.

Diet guide into fitting in that dress --- 3 days before

Lately, I have been attending a lot of weekend parties (mostly weddings with some birthdays in between).  For some of these events, I have been wearing this blue dress that I bought recently.  It has great A-line shape, pretty blue color, and looked great on me the first time I tried it on.  Recently, I've been noticing that I feel like I look (to put it mildly) not as slim as I used to (compared to the previous times that I wore the dress).  I know I haven't really gained weight so it can't be that.  I thought I was just being paranoid and weird about it, until I read an article a few weeks back.  It's from a local newspaper about fitting into a dress 3 days before the party.  It's basically about what not to eat (and what to eat as well) for the 2-3 days before an event so as not to make you look (and feel) bloated.  It was definitely an 'Aha!' moment for me because I realized that I've been stuffing myself silly with food or drinks that made me bloated and as such, made me feel like I was heavier/bigger in my dress than I really was.

You may jump here to read the rest of the article but I've listed below some of the Do's and Don'ts from US-certified fitness nutritionist-chef Nadine Tengco.

First up, the DON'Ts:
1.  Cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower (or any vegetable that belongs to the cabbage family).  They are high in fiber which could cause stomach distension (sorta like bloating).  Actually, any raw veggie should be avoided.

2.  All beans, legumes, nuts (and yes, that includes peanut butter).  Again with the stomach distension.

3.  Apple, pear, grapes.  May cause bloating.

4.  Cola or anything fizzy.  This will bloat you (not surprising there).

5.  Dairy.  I think this one depends on the person in terms of sensitivity or allergic reaction with dairy products.

6.  Food with artificial preservatives (e.g. cured meats and artificial sweeteners).

Now for the DOs:
1.  Ginger, luyang dilaw (tumeric), lemongrass.  Made into a tea or added to broths or soups.  I think this one helps in detoxification.  Whenever I have stomach issues, I would usually drink ginger tea (freshly made) and I swear it decreases any uneasiness in my stomach.

2.  Go for cooked green leafy vegetables (except for the ones from the cabbage family).

3.  Coffee and tea.  In moderation and definitely the freshly brewed type (for the coffee) and not the powdered or bottled type for the tea.

4.  Lots of water to help in the flushing of toxins and stops the bloating.  Actually, buko (coconut) juice also helps too (but only in moderation since a cup contains 45 calories already).

5.  Rice.  The ideal intake would be 1/2 cup of rice (max.) or equivalent to 1/3 of plate.

6.  For your protein, any lean meat, chicken, or fish.  Approximately 85-115 grams (again 1/3 of the plate).

7.  Around 6-8 hours of sleep and no later than 11 PM.  Lack of sleep stresses the body (don't I know that.  Every morning I wake up with bags under my eyes that reminds me how much I've been stressing).

Though surprising that some healthy foods were listed on the Don'ts part, it seems that they are only not advised to be eaten 48-72 hours before the impending event that you want to look hot for (a wedding comes to mind!).  Other than that, they should be part of your regular diet.

I will definitely keep these pointers in mind 3 days before our wedding next year.

Supplier spotlight: Cupcakes by Sonja

Four.

I have inquired with four different bakers to find the one who'd not only be able to create the wedding cake I want but also at a price that wasn't too unrealistic.  I also kept shifting wedding cake ideas from cupcake towers to tiered cakes to a cake buffet.  Price, design, and taste all played a role on how difficult it was for us to find the one (final wedding cake design as well as the wedding cake supplier).

Of all the suppliers on our list, only Cupcakes by Sonja met our requirements.  Though it certainly didn't hurt that I was a fan of her cupcakes from way back to 2008 (so taste-wise, we already know what we're getting).  Her dessert creations is so much part of our relationship that I could remember two instances (on top of countless dates that ended with a cupcake or began with a cupcake) wherein Mr. J bought me (our favorite) Pistachio Berries n Cream just to make me happy: one time was after we had a semi-big fight; another time was when I was so pissed off because I had to work on a weekend (at around midnight, at that).  It was only natural that Cupcakes by Sonja would be a part of our wedding, too.

Some of the cupcake flavors that would be present at our wedding (from the Cupcakes by Sonja website):

Pistachio Berries n Cream

Vanilla Sunshine

Red Velvet

Chocolate Surprise

Chocolate Overload

Corresponding with the company was easy and Mitch (who was the one coordinating with me) would often answer my queries within a day or two.  Mr. J and I also met with Ms. Sonja Ocampo (the owner) and am delighted to report that she's so down to earth and easy to transact with.  In the end, we not only decided to have them do our wedding cake (we got such a good price for a 5-tiered vintage fairy tale inspired cake) but also got individual cupcakes (with customized design) as wedding favors as well as mini-cupcakes that would be added to our dessert buffet (note to self: need to ask Bizu to provide extra plating for this).

Wedding cake: check!  We're definitely more than half-way to finding wedding suppliers for July 14, 2012.  So excited!

Fierce wedding shoes

Source: Jon Tolentino Photography

I just can't seem to get this off my mind.  I mean, I know I don't want to wear white shoes and yet, I also don't think I'd want to wear something this dark.

BUT.

I can't stop thinking how fabulous it would be to walk down the aisle in this gorgeous pair of Jimmy Choo open toed booties.

Harry Potter (premiere)-inspired wedding gown

Watching Harry Potter movies (I'm a fan of the book) has been our thing ever since.  This is an almost sacred, cannot be broken routine for us that even if I would take my nieces and nephew to watch in the cinema, this task would have taken second priority.  Meaning, I would be watching the movie with them for the second time because the first time would definitely be with Mr. J only.  We're a little protective with stuffs that we do together. =P

Anyway, I figure I'd post this little number that the beloved Hermione Granger, err... Emma Watson wore to the London premiere of the final installment of the last Harry Potter movie.

Just change the color of this Oscar de la Renta gown and you've got a wedding-y and very whimsical wedding gown.

Happy one more year to go!

"Happy one more year to go!"

This was Mr. J's greeting to me this morning when he fetched me at home (he drives me to work).  I have been so preoccupied lately with work while simultaneously reviewing wedding supplier contracts, researching on various wedding suppliers, and making date plans for tomorrow (it's HP, Harry Potter, night!) that I completely forgot that today is July 14.

Exactly a year from now, it's going to be OUR wedding day.  Hmmm... I think I want one of these 'Mr. & Mrs.' signs. =D

What to wear: Wedding

I'm attending two wedding in the following months.  Actually, I'm sure of the one in August, just not sure if I feel like going for the other wedding (I probably will out of support to Mr. J).

Anyway, lately, I've been busy with figuring out what to wear as a guest at a wedding.  It's not an easy task to dress and balance looking fab but not too fab that you'd outshine the real stars of the wedding (bride and groom).  Anthropologie has come up with 4 different looks for 4 different wedding styles.

*All images are from Anthropologie.

The last one (cocktail) is my favorite.  If you want to shop these items, head on over to Anthropologie's online store to find these and more fashionable goodies for sale.  Honestly, if the shipment cost (not to mention, shipping to the Philippines can sometimes be a bit confusing with the package eventually getting lost) wouldn't kill me, I probably would have shopped here as often as possible.

Supplier spotlight: Bizu

I could let go of having Bizu do the whole reception dinner.  BUT.  I will not pass up the opportunity to have a valid excuse to have a Bizu dessert spread.

Ever since I had a taste of their macarons, I was hooked.  Then I had a taste of their French cakes, I was beyond hooked.  We would sometimes go to Greenbelt (upon my insistence, of course) just so I could satisfy my Bizu craving.  We spent numerous dates at their restaurant in Greenbelt 2, I would sometimes prepare snacks for Mr. J using the ciabatta or focaccia bread I'd buy from their Glorietta 4 branch (on my way home), and on countless times, we would order for take-out either a cake (oh Nirvana!) or a macaron (pistachio!) or both!  Given this, it is only fitting that we have Bizu desserts for our wedding reception dinner.

It was easy dealing with Kaye, our AE from Bizu.  I made the reservation last March on a wedding expo Mr. J and I attended.  We didn't really need a food tasting anymore but I was pleasantly surprised that it's part of the package to help us choose the pastries for the buffet spread (you can select 8-10 types from cakes to truffles).  Seriously, who can resist free dessert especially when it's this many:

My camera phone and limited photography skills does not do justice how cute (not to mention, delish!) these little desserts were.

The amount per head depends on the number of guests you'll have.  As usual, the more guests you want to feed, the lesser the price (of the per head) will be.  A few more inclusions of our package:

- Set-up of buffet table complete with food labels
- Floral centerpieces
- Buffet attendant
- Professional chefs for plating and design of desserts
- Refrigerated delivery

A few more tidbits:

We paid Php5,000 to reserve our date and also got a 10% discount for making the booking at a bridal fair.  After the food tasting, we paid 50% since we had finalized the dessert selection already.  The remaining balance would be paid upon delivery.

Supplier spotlight: Jing Tanada

*just a little something about me: Whenever I find something I really like (perhaps a cute dress on display, to-die-for shoes, drool worthy cakes, or even a passing-by adorable little puppy), I make this soft (but loud enough for the next person beside me to notice) deep inhale reaction.  This is actually how Mr. J knows that I just spotted something I like/love*

This was the reception table centerpiece that got me asking: who took my breath away?  The name Jing Tanada didn't really ring a bell and so being the 'Net surfer addict that I am, I Googled her.  Found her works, love her works, decided that we would make her our only choice for florist/stylist.  When we first met, my first impression was that she's very unassuming and very nice.  Quite experienced, too, she told us she's been in the floral business for a long time now (10 years or more, I believe).  It was a short meeting (30 minutes, I think) because the only important matter for us was if, again, she's someone we would like to work with (she is) and if she would fit our budget (she did... eventually. haha.  though still pricey.)

We booked her by paying (via bank deposit) 50% of the agreed package (entourage flowers, church, and wedding reception decors).  I super can't wait on what she'll do for our wedding.

Here are other wedding decorations that she's done that took my breath away (over and over again):

*All images (except last picture) were grabbed from Jing Tanada's facebook profile.

Happy Mondays #3

I'm still on the hunt for our wedding cake (or cupcake tower!).  Not helping my indecisiveness is when you have the option to have something like this: a too-gorgeous-to-eat cupcake.  AJRFCZQC37NA
